"Stearic acid ethoxylates are typically used as emulsifiers in oil-in-water creams and lotions. Their hydrophilicity or lipophilicity depends on the number of ethylene oxide units; the more units, the more hydrophilic the compound. They are also used as emulsifying agents in intravenous infusions and impart a pearlescent finish to lubricants."
